Rebels.  Blassingame averaged 12 points and 6 assists for Coach Mike
Miller's Cubs.  LA City's season ended with the ultimate, the California
State Championship.  This is the second time in six years that Miller has
captured the championship at LACC.
Blassingame, a native of Brooklyn, New York, was receiving interest from UCLA,
Pittsburgh, Miami (FL), San Francisco, Gonzaga and Baylor at different stages
during his recruitment before deciding on the Rebels.
Jerel, who was named after Superman's father,  was named the MVP of this
year's state tournament after averaging 21 points over the three games.
That stretch included a 28 point outburst against defending champion Saddleback
in the semifinals.
Blassingame came into this season with national accolades. Both The Sporting News and Street & Smith's rated Blassingame as one of the top JC point guards in the country.
As a freshman, Blassingame averaged 10.5 points and 4 assists per game for
the Cubs, but the team fell just shy of the state championship.
Blassingame becomes the second Cub to join the Rebels.  Dead-eye shooting
guard/small forward Romel Beck signed with the Rebels two weeks ago.
The two players join Chris Adams, Andy Hannan and Michael Umeh to round out the
recruiting class.  Because of the 5/8 rule, which limits signings to
no more than five players in one year or eight players over a two year period,
UNLV will not be able to sign any more players.
John Winston, who signed with the Rebels in the fall, has yet to become
academically eligible.  It remains to be seen what happens with Winston.
