It's the first time UNLV has appeared in a bowl game since they participated in the Heart of Texas Bowl and lost to North Texas 36-14 in 2014. Kansas is making their second straight bowl appearance.

Kansas enters the 2023 Guaranteed Rate Bowl with their best regular season record since 2007, finishing 8-4 (5-4 Big 12) while the Rebels have posted their first 9 win season since 1984.
