In the consolation game at the Arizona Tip-Off in Tempe, Arizona, the Northwestern Wildcats dropped UNLV 66-61. This game marked the second encounter between these two teams in history, with the last meeting dating back to December 20, 1977.

Neither team could establish an offensive rhythm, especially in the first half where Northwestern managed only a 26-25 lead at the break. UNLV's offense was plagued by turnovers, committing 10 in the first half alone, while Northwestern's shot a horrid 29.2% from the floor during the first half.

The second half was tightly and slowly contested, with UNLV's offense never quite finding its footing, shooting below 40 percent. Northwestern managed to maintain an edge, largely due to better ball control and timely scoring. Jalen Leach of Northwestern was noted for his shooting efficiency, helping his team keep the lead.

Dedan Thomas Jr. led the Rebels with 17 points, trying to keep UNLV in the game, but Northwestern's Nick Martinelli's scoring prowess, especially in clutch moments, proved decisive. The Wildcats' defense tightened in the last minutes, allowing for enough of a margin to keep the Rebels at arms length.

Showing some promise was freshman big man Pape N'Diaye who made an immediate impact with three blocked shots shortly after entering the game, but the Rebels remained in an offensive rut.

This loss left UNLV with a 4-3 record on the season, echoing last year's struggle at a multi-team holiday event. For Northwestern, the victory improves their record to 6-2.

The Rebels next face Creighton in Omaha on Saturday, November 7. The Blue Jays are currently ranked #21, but have struggled in losing three straight. Creighton will have games against Notre Dame and Kansas before hosting UNLV.
