Once again, the Rebels fought, but couldn’t get over the hump and ended the game with a resounding thud after the Wolfpack scored the last six points of the game.
Julian Rishwain hit back to back three pointers, his only makes on a cold shooting night, to keep the Rebels tight with the UNR Wolfpack.
With 1:17 remaining in the game, Dedan Thomas’ smooth jumper knotted the game at 65. UNR took a two point lead on a short jumper before the pivotal play of the game. Trailing by two with 32 seconds remaining, Dedan Thomas seemed to have a good path to the basket. But Brandon Love delivered a spectacular block off the backboard with the Wolfpack retaining possession.
UNR’s Tyler Rolison drained four of four free throws in the last 25 seconds for the final margin of victory.
The Rebels, who started out conference play at 3-0, dropped their fourth straight game falling in sole possession of sixth place with a 5-6 conference record. The Rebels also dropped to 11-11 on the season.
Jaden Henley led the Rebels with 14 points, followed by 12 points for both Jeremiah Cherry and Dedan Thomas.
Neither shot the ball well with UNLV hitting on 6-19 three pointers and 4-19 by UNR. The Rebels were slowed with 15 turnovers, five by the steady handling Thomas.
The Rebels next play fifth place Boise State in an 8:00 pm affair at the Thomas and Mack Center on Tuesday. The Broncos defeated UNLV 81-59 in Boise three weeks ago.
