Rebels add more scoring
Coming off a season where the UNLV Runnin' Rebels finished near dead last in the Mountain West Conference in 3-point shooting, one of the biggest goals this offseason was to bulk up the perimeter with some sure-fire guards.
After receiving the signature of the top shooting guard in the nation on Wednesday, UNLV added another backcourt scorer on Saturday as Patrick McCaw made his commitment to the Rebels.
McCaw, who moved to Maryland from Missouri during his senior year in high school, chose UNLV over Missouri, Cincinnati, SMU, Providence and more. He also took visits to DePaul and Florida State before eliminating those programs.
A three-star from powerhouse Montrose Christian, McCaw will immediately add another deep threat to go along with guards Cody Doolin, Kendall Smith, Jelan Kendrick and Vaughn.
At 6-foot-5 and 180-pounds, McCaw's game is not one-dimensional. He has the ability to put the ball on the ground and make plays for teammates. Described as not overly "athletic", McCaw is known as a scorer, who beats his opponent with his high skill level and ability to change speeds.
Despite his slight frame, there's no hesitation in McCaw's game to go inside and finish around the rim. He also has shown a strong knack for hitting the unorthodox shots, including runners off of the wrong foot.
McCaw joins Dwayne Morgan, Goodluck Okonoboh, Doolin and Vaughn as the newest Rebels, in what will be an almost completely different looking squad than the one that UNLV fans got to know last season.
