Smith to visit UNLV

As revealed on Rebel-Net.com yesterday, UNLV will host Southwest Mississippi Community College point guard Deville Smith this weekend. The speedy, diminutive point guard's JC season ended earlier this week, paving way for the visit.

At SMCC, Smith led the team with 16 points, 4.9 assists and 2.1 steals per game. He also shot nearly 50% from the floor and nearly 40% from beyond the three point line. He joined SMCC with his younger brother, Devion Smith.

Smith's collegiate career started at Mississippi State, but was short lived.

As a freshman at MSU, averaged 4.2 points and 2 assists in 13 minutes per game. He scorched the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville for a career high 25 points in only 18 minutes. Smith was expected to be an integral part of the Bulldogs as starting point guard in 2012, but Rick Stansbury's departure ultimately caused Smith and other Bulldogs to transfer.

Rated as the 17th best point guard in the country in 2011 as rated by Rivals.com, Smith, originally from Jackson, Mississippi (Calloway), was rated higher than former UNLV recruits Nadiir Tharpe (Kansas) and Jabarie Hinds (West Virginia), and Trey Burke (Michigan) while falling one slot behind Shane Larkin (Miami).

Upon his signing at MSU, Rick Stanbury said, "He's tough and has great vision. He has just enough moxie at the point. He has that swagger. He can get the ball in the paint and pass it."

Known for lightning quickness and athleticism, pestering defense, playmaking and court vision, the 5'11" point guard was a Rivals 4-star recruit in 2011.
