Gorman pulls away late on road

Coming into the night, the Bishop Gorman Gaels knew they had a tough test on the road against Centennial, who were the top team in the Sunrise Southwest league.

Coach Grant Rice and company had a tough test until the Bulldogs started to run out of gas with two minutes left in the third quarter. Then the Gaels pulled away from Centennial, earning a 79-71 victory on the road, after swapping the lead with the Bulldogs several times during the course of the game.

Leading the Gaels was point guard Noah Robotham. Robotham had 22 points along with five assists while shooting 66% from the field. Robotham drained four critical free throws down the stretch and was 7-8 from the line overall. Unfortunately, Robotham left the game with 1:40 left in the contest with a sprained ankle. Robotham was able to walk away under his own power.

Rashad Muhammad, younger brother of Shabazz Muhammad, also had a statement game. Muhammed dropped in 17 points and shot 50% from beyond the arc. He also had three rebounds and five assists.

Seven foot sophomore Stephen Zimmerman made his presence known in the contest. Zimmerman stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks and four steals. On top of all that, Zimmerman played limited minutes because of foul trouble.

Chase Jeter came off the bench and used his size to help the Gaels. Jeter had 8 points and 8 rebounds each. The combination of both Gorman big men was too much for the Bulldogs to handle.

While there may not be that many games left to catch the Gaels this season, the 2012-2013 campaign is far from over. The Gaels will travel to California to take on Orange Lutheran on February 2nd, and five days later they will close out the regular season against none other than the Centennial Bulldogs.
