Rebels fall short to land Hamilton

This was one that got away for the red hot Runnin' Rebels.

UNLV was on the verge of hauling in another four-star prospect on Friday night before Los Angeles native, Isaac Hamilton, spurned UNLV on ESPNU by picking UTEP over the Rebels, UCLA, San Diego State and Baylor.

Head coach Dave Rice and assistant Justin Hutson went after Hamilton with the potential of also receiving a commitment from Isaac's younger brother, Daniel, a highly ranked wing forward in the class of 2014.

Isaac cited his family's long relationship with the UTEP staff, namely head coach Tim Floyd, as his reasoning for choosing the Miners.

Despite the tough break for UNLV, fans shouldn't feel any sympathy for the program. The Rebels are in good with a number of big names for the class of 2013, particuarly New Jersey forward, Jermaine Lawrence.

Even if things don't change, UNLV has already had an outstanding class, headlined by Findlay Prep's Christian Wood, Indian Hill's Jelan Kendrick and former Nevada standout Dantley Walker.

It was going to be a challenge for playing time as it was for Hamilton with so many young players lined up at the guard spots. Katin Reinhardt, Bryce Dejean-Jones, DaQuan Cook, Savon Goodman, Kendrick and Walker will all be a part of the roster and would've battled Hamilton.
