Rebels earn blowout victory

MONTREAL, Quebec, Canada - Six Runnin' Rebels scored in double figures as the UNLV men's basketball team won its third straight game in Canada, 97-62, over the University of Laval at McGill University's G. Donald Love Competition Hall on Monday Night.

Sophomore Bryce Dejean-Jones and senior Anthony Marshall led all scorers with 18 points, freshman Savon Goodman and junior Carlos Lopez had 16, while junior Mike Moser and senior Quintrell Thomas added 14 and 10, respectively. Dejean-Jones also had a game-high eight rebounds, while Goodman added seven.

Leading 7-4 early on, the Runnin' Rebels used a 24-4 run to take a 31-8 lead just before the end of the first quarter. With another run of 16-3, UNLV increased a 36-12 advantage to a score of 49-15 before leading 65-29 at halftime. UNLV extended its lead to as many as 43 points (93-50) in the second half.

Four Runnin' Rebels scored in double figures in the first half led by Goodman's 14 points on 5-of-7 from the field. Marshall had 12 on 5-of-7, including a 3-pointer, while Dejean-Jones scored 11 points on 4-of-6 and Moser added 10 on 3-of-5, including a 3-pointer. Lopez had nine points at halftime.

The Runnin' Rebels were 23-of-36 as a team during the first half of play for 63.9 percent, and made 16-of-21 free throws. They shot just 33 percent in the second half to finish the game at 48.6 percent (35-of-72).

UNLV forced 14 Laval turnovers in the first half, while committing just six of its own. Laval finished the game with 22 turnovers. UNLV also led in rebounding during the first 20 minutes, 19-8 and finished with a 41-35 advantage. Laval shot just 32.1 percent from the field (9-of-28) before the break and 28.6 percent in the second half.

Thibaud Dezutter led Laval with 15 points, all scored in the first half. Hughes Ryan and Joakim Longpre each added 13. Dezutter and Longpre each had six rebounds to lead Laval.

The Runnin' Rebels were without freshman Katin Reinhardt, who was not in uniform after suffering an injury in UNLV's win at Ottawa on Sunday afternoon.

UNLV will close out its Canadian tour on Tuesday night against McGill at 7 p.m. ET.
