Rebels still in hunt for talented wing
With an entire row of college head coaches watching his each and every move, 4-star forward Demarquise Johnson put on an early morning show in Las Vegas at Sierra Vista High School.
A 6-foot-6 wing from Phoenix, Johnson scored in a variety of ways on Saturday, leading Team Eleate to a convincing victory over the Arizona Dream Team in a Las Vegas Fab 48 opening round matchup.
Dave Rice of UNLV, Craig Robinson of Oregon State, and Gonzaga's Mark Few were just a few of the coaches on hand to witness Johnson's 30-point barrage. Not coincidentally, those three schools are among the favorites to ultimately land the small forward, one of the west coast's most sought after talents in the 2012 class.
"Oregon State, UNLV, Missouri, Washington, Colorado, Gonzaga, and Washington State," replied Johnson, when asked which programs made up his current list of potential schools. And according to Rivals No. 102 ranked overall prospect, each of those schools are strong in the running for his services. "Everything's definitely still open," said Johnson.
As his recruitment continues to heat up, Johnson - an equal opportunity scorer whose prowess from beyond the arc on this day was complimented by a pair of athletic dunks late - appears to be in no rush to make a final decision. "I'll decide sometime this year, in 2011," said Johnson. "Most likely after the summer."
According to Johnson, UNLV - despite previous reports suggesting that the Westwind Prep product might have narrowed his list of potential schools - remains very much in the running.
"UNLV's still in the running...just like everybody."
